The hours for the Army Emergency Relief Section at West Point are Monday through Friday, 8am-4:30pm, excluding holidays. If the need for emergency financial assistance arises outside these operating hours, the American Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Service Center can be contacted toll free at (877) 272-7337. This Center is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In 1942, AER was incorporated with a mission to relieve the distress of Soldiers and their Families. For the past 73 years, Army Emergency Relief (AER) has remained steadfast in this commitment and has proven to be a positive influence in the lives of many Soldiers, both Active Duty and Retired.

AER provides financial assistance to Active Duty Soldiers, Retirees, their Families, National Guard and Reserve Soldiers on Title 10 orders, Wounded Warriors and Surviving Spouses. All financial assistance is given as a zero-percent interest loan, a grant with no payback requirement or as a combination of the two. Since inception, AER has provided over $1.6 Billion in financial assistance. Assistance is available for a multitude of valid emergency needs ranging from car repair to required dental care not covered by insurance.

Did you know that AER can help with things like:

There are two ways to request financial assistance. AER Form 700 can be used for all assistance cases.Service Members in the ranks of SGT and above do not need their Command approval. All emergency needs must be justified with the appropriate documentation. AER Form 600 can be used as a quick way for Commanders to provide their Soldiers the emergency assistance they need, up to $1,500. Commanders and First Sergeants are given the discretion to request as little or as much paperwork as they want. The AER Form 57R must accompany both applications, whether the 700 or 600.

In addition to providing emergency financial assistance, AER also administers scholarship programs for Spouses and Dependent Children of Active Duty Soldiers and Retirees. For more information on the Spouse scholarship, click here. More information on the scholarship for Children can be found here. The application period opens for both scholarships at the beginning of each year. All

paperwork must be in and finalized by May 1st. Scholarships are need-based and award amounts vary based on the number of applicants for the year. For the 2014-2015
academic year, AER awarded $8.8 Milliion.

For more information on how AER can aid with your financial needs and all other questions regarding the AER program, please contact your local West Point AER Officer at the above number or email address.
